One of the many things that makes St Albans Beer & Cider Festival special is our brilliant selection of unique games. Borrowed from CAMRA's national collection, this range of traditional pub sports reflects some of the quirky regional variations that would have been common around the country in days gone by.
Perfect for testing your skill after a few drinks or pitting yourself against friends, our games include:
Table Skittles: Also known as "Devil Amongst the Tailors", this is an old pub game with the objective of knocking down the skittles with a ball on a chain. Tougher than it looks!
Shut the Box: Originally a French sailors' dice game, this involves throwing the correct combination of dice to cover up nine numbers on a board. Close all the boxes to win, and the game ends if you cannot close a box to match the dice throw.
Shuffleboard: Said to be one of Henry VIII's favourite games, you slide wooden discs along a narrow board through gaps to score points. This is great fun and very competitive, and always popular at the festival.
Ring the Handpull: Five rings per go - succeed in getting two or more rings over the beer pump to win.
Northamptonshire Skittles: Requiring skill not speed, you get three "cheeses" to knock down all the skittles on table.
Table Football: A classic bar game, our coin operated table is excellent, high energy fun!
